Laying a wreath for Crewe & Nantwich Conservatives at the Crewe Town Council Remembrance Ceremony is probably the highlight so far of my time in politics. It was a complete honour. Every single one of us owes a huge debt to the young men that fought and died for us during the First World War. Whilst the ceremony was dedicated to the 100 year anniversary of that war, we know of course yet more sacrifices were made by men and women across society during the Second World War.
I would recommend watching this series of interviews about the First World War from the BBC archive filmed in the 1960’s with veterans and civilians for a unique insight into what people went through:

Even with all our challenges, we are very lucky to have been through the hardship and horrors people faced.
