Welcome to this week's newsletter.
Unfortunately, I had a bit of a sporting accident this week! While playing rugby I suffered a serious injury to my ankle. Skip the picture below if you are squeamish!
Thank you to the first class NHS staff who cared for me. This does, however, mean that I have missed events I was due to be at this week such as the alleyway clean up and a visit by the Hospitals Minister to Leighton. It is going to be frustrating not being able to all these events while I heal, but I'll be raring to go as soon as I can! I'm afraid its going to be about six weeks until I can use my ankle at all.
This week was A-Level results day, and thousands of students at local schools and colleges found out if all of their hard work has paid off. I want to particularly congratulate the students and staff at Cheshire College for receiving their best set of results ever. If you, or someone you know, unfortunately did not get what they needed - don't worry. There are still plenty of fantastic opportunities that you can take advantages of. I have included links to some resources below.
The team at Pure Insights are currently recruiting new volunteer mentors to help them carry out their vital work. If you are interested in doing something like this, there are details below of an information evening where you can find out more.
In my latest article on interesting local history, this week we are looking at the Great Fire of Nantwich. A very interesting event in which Queen Elizabeth I herself helped rebuild the town following the devastation.
Finally, good luck to the lionesses on Sunday who will face Spain in the Women's World Cup Final. You have already made the country so proud by getting this far. Go break a leg! 😄
Have a great weekend.

Personal News - Broken Ankle
To those brave enough to look at the photos below, yes my ankle is pointing the wrong way! I love rugby and keeping fit but there is no denying it comes with risks. I did however receive absolutely first class care from the NHS as always.
It's very frustrating to be immobile for a while as lots planned and it's always horrible to not be able to make events. I always feel guilty missing stuff!
Ironically, on the day I was due to meet Hospitals Minister Lord Markham for a visit to Leighton to open a new ward and discuss the next steps of the rebuild, I'm stuck in a different hospital!
This week I was also due to be at an alleyway cleanup, the Crewe Alexandra Football Club session in St Barnabas with Crewe St Barnabas Councillor James Pratt, and the official launch of Lyceum Square with Crewe Town Council and more! Will be raring to get back up and about as soon as I can!
A Level Results Day
Thursday was A-Level results day and thousands of students across Crewe and Nantwich opened up their results hoping all of their hard work has paid off.
Congratulations to everyone for all of the effort you have put in - I do hope you are happy with what you have got. In particular, congratulations to all the students and staff at Cheshire College - South & West for achieving record breaking results - the best for the college to date. This includes over 100 students achieving the highest possible A level grades of A*A*A* or the equivalent in their chosen subject.
There will, however, be those who do not get the results they are hoping for. If this is the case, there are still many opportunities you can pursue. In first instance, your school or college will be able to guide and support you on the next steps.
You may be able to get a university place through clearing. Alternatively, there are many opportunities through degree apprenticeships, T-Levels and School Leaver Schemes.
If you do need help and advice, you can contact the national careers service on 0800 100 900.

Did You Know? The Great Fire of Nantwich
In December of 1583 a fire destroyed nearly all of Nantwich to the east of the river Weaver. Due in part to Nantwich’s then important to role in England’s tanning industry, centred in Barker Street, Elizabeth I contributed funds to the town's rebuilding, which occurred rapidly and followed the plan of the previously destroyed town.
Following Nantwich’s speedy recovery, Beam Street was named as such to highlight its importance as all the timber used was transported along it. A plaque marking the 400th anniversary of the fire and of Nantwich's rebuilding was unveiled by the Duke of Gloucester on 20 September 1984. Churche’s Mansion remains one of the few buildings to survive the fire of 1583 and is still standing today.

CLOSURES AROUND LEIGHTON:
Full details of closures around Leighton: https://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/highways_and_roads/roadworks/major-projects/north-west-crewe-package-nwcp/north-west-crewe-package.aspx
The traffic lights at the end of Flowers Lane will be replaced with a roundabout as will the other accesses onto the new houses off the A530. The rear of Leighton hospital will have an improved access from Flowers Lane and the Hospital main entrance access on Smithy Lane will also be improved.
In the near future Minshull New Road will be stopped off at the Leighton academy to through traffic, but access will still be provided to the school for children from the north and south creating a much safer entrance.
Part of the problems with creating a diversion is that the traffic can only be diverted onto roads of the same or a superior category. Diverted traffic cannot be diverted onto minor roads.
At the end of the Highways project all the new roads and roundabouts will be providing easier and safer access to Leighton and its surrounds. Work can then start on the new houses with the confidence that current residents will be less affected by more traffic.
