Welcome to this week's newsletter.
In exciting news, two of the nominations I put forward for the NHS Parliamentary Awards have been shortlisted! Karen Cotici has been shortlisted for the NHS Rising Star Award, while the Dynamic Support Database at the Cheshire and Wirral Partnership has been for the Future NHS Award. It is a huge achievement to make the short list so keep everything crossed!
At Prime Minister's Questions, I asked the PM about organising a meeting for MPs in other areas which may be interested in learning about how Deep Geothermal Energy could benefit their areas. This comes after I published a report on the opportunities of Geothermal. I shall be going to the Eden project next week to attend the opening of their new geothermal plant.
In Parliament, I also spoke in a debate about disruptive protests. We have a long history of peaceful protest in this country, and people should not be allowed to infringe on the freedom of people just going about their day. It is right that the police should have more power to crack down on these individuals and groups.
I also met with the former England footballer John Barnes, to discuss the plans by Crewe FC for a new facility that has been accepted onto the grant decision framework. Well done to all the team at Crewe FC for all your hard work!
Friday marked the 7th anniversary of the death of Jo Cox. While her death is a stark reminder of the dangers of division, we must never forget her key message that we have more in common than divides us.
Finally, it is excellent news that employment remains at a near-record high. I understand that we are in difficult times, and there is more to be done, but the best way people can help themselves and get on in life is through work.
Have a great weekend.

NHS Parliamentary Awards
Working with the local NHS I recently nominated local NHS staff for the NHS Parliamentary Awards, and they have been shortlisted! The NHS Parliamentary Awards recognises the outstanding contribution of staff and volunteers working in our health service.
Karen Cotici, a Registered Nurse apprentice at Leighton Hospital, was shortlisted for the NHS Rising Star Award. Karen began her career at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as an apprentice before training as a Healthcare Assistant and then starting her degree in Nursing at Keele University, where she continues her placement in Leighton Hospital’s Emergency Dept. Karen has achieved all of this alongside being a busy mum of four.
I also nominated The Dynamic Support Database – Clinical Support Tool for the Future NHS Award alongside other Cheshire MPs. The DSD at Cheshire and Wirral NHS Partnership is a validated measure for rating admission needs, which clinically prioritises individuals based on mental health hospital admission risk. Stratifying the need for people with Learning disabilities and Autism allows enhanced support services to reduce hospital admissions.
The winners will be announced at the NHS Parliamentary Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, 5th July. Good luck to everyone!
PMQs Geothermal
I recently published a report into the opportunities provided by deep geothermal as a clean and cost effective energy source. I am also looking forward to going to the opening of the new geothermal plant at the Eden Project next week.
This week at PMQ's I asked the Prime Minister for a meeting with other MP's that may be interested in unleashing the potential benefits in their own areas.

Debate on Disruptive Protests
We've all seen on the news the chaos caused by deliberately disruptive protests - stopping people from getting to work and putting lives in danger by blocking ambulances.
While in a free society we have the right to protest, this does not give people the free reign to just do what they want and inconvience ordinary people just wanting to go about their day.
There are many ways in which someone can ensure they get their views heard - whether that be through non-disruptive protests or even standing as a candidate in elections. But they do not do this - they are only interests in causing the most amount of distruption they can so that they make headlines.
It is only right that the police have the powers neccessary to crack down on these groups and individuals.
John Barnes - Football Foundation
Great to meet with John Barnes at the Football Foundation event, discussing the plans by Crewe FC for a new facility that have been accepted onto the grant decision framework.
So much work has gone into the project by the Crewe FC volunteers! John talked through his passion for grassroots football based on how important it is for all our physical and mental wellbeing. I couldn't agree more!
I will carry on doing what I can to support Crewe FC in getting the facility built and open as soon as possible.
Jo Cox - 7 Year Anniversary of Tragic Murder
It was 7 years ago that Jo Cox, MP for Batley and Spen, was tragically murdered in her constituency.
Her death was a stark reminder of the dangers of division and hatred, but we must also remember the key message of her maiden speech that 'we have more in common than divides us'.
Her work on unity is now carried on in her name through the Jo Cox Foundation.

Employment at Near Record High
Fantastic news that the latest figures show that employment remains at a near record high.
I know that we are in difficult times - with increases in prices due to the effects of the pandemic and Putin's illegal invasion of Ukraine. However, the best way to get on in life and improve your future chance is, and has always been, through work.
There is more to be done, but it is great to see that more and more people enjoy the benefits of working.
