Welcome to this week's newsletter.
Last weekend we all celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III - and it didn't disappoint! This is what we as a country do best! I know so many of you held street parties and helped out in your area during the Big Help Out.
Local schools will benefit from over £2.7 Million worth of additional funding from Government. The schools themselves will be able to spend this money on their own priorities, whether that be buying more educational supplies, helping with running costs or giving staff a pay uplift.
The Government this week announced plans to cut waiting times at GP surgeries. This includes an investment of £240 million to improve GPs' phone systems – stopping the 8am rush and ensuring that urgent appointments are given on the same day. Pharmacies will also be able to prescribe medication for common illnesses, freeing up 15 million more GP appointments. These plans go alongside announcements earlier in the year to tackle waiting times at A&E. While these are very welcome, more needs to be done - I will continue to push the Government to go further.
Finally, I was lucky enough to see a performance of Calendar Girls by the Crewe Amateur Musicals Society and it was absolutely fantastic! It really is unbelievable that this is an amateur production and it gives such amazing opportunities for people locally. Congratulations to everyone involved.
Have a great weekend.

Coronation Weekend
Last weekend, the UK coronated a new monarch for the first time in 70 years.
This fantastic weekend showed off what we, as a country, do best! There was a wonderful atmosphere, and people came from all over the world to witness the event.
I know that locally many residents organised street parties and other celebrations in their community. We also showed that we are a generous nation, with thousands of people volunteering in their areas during the ‘Big Help Out’ on Sunday.

Funding Boost for Crewe and Nantwich Schools
State schools in England are receiving the first payment from a £2 Billion boost in education funding - including £2.7 million for schools here in Crewe and Nantwich.
This funding is calculated on a per-pupil basis, with more given for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Each school can choose how they spend this extra cash - such as buying more learning materials, helping with running costs or giving staff a salary uplift.

Cutting NHS Waiting Times
Waiting lists in the NHS are too long. Too many people are unable to get the healthcare they need as quickly as they should. Things have improved since the end of the pandemic, but more needs to be done and I have been letting the Health Secretary know this.
Just this week, the Government announced plans to improve access to GPs and other primary care providers. This includes an investment of £240 million to improve GPs' phone systems – stopping the 8am rush and ensuring that urgent appointments are given on the same day. Pharmacies will also be able to prescribe medication for common illnesses, freeing up 15 million more GP appointments.
Earlier on in the year, the plan to cut waiting times in A&E was published, with funding for more hospital beds, ambulances and staff. Pressure will also be reduced by speeding up hospital discharge and expanding ways to treat people in the community.
In the budget, pension rules were improved to encourage senior NHS staff to continue working for longer into their careers - ensuring we have more experienced doctors and nurses.
While these plans are very welcome, they are not quick, easy fixes and more needs to be done so we have a health service we can rely on.
I will continue to push the Government on this.
