Welcome to this week's newsletter.
This week Rishi Sunak became our new Prime Minister. I understand that many people will be frustrated by the events of the past few weeks. I am always frustrated when we aren't focused on delivering for people. I hope we now have a period of stability so we can get back to doing that.
It is also a historic moment, as we have our first Prime Minister from ethnic minority background. I know that many people from Indian heritage in Crewe and Nantwich and beyond will be celebrating this, highlighting the fact that in the UK, anyone, from any background, can reach the top.
In other news, my Christmas Card Competition is now open for entries! This is always a highlight for me every year, going through all of the amazing designs that local children send to me and seeing the look of pride of the winner. See below on how to enter.
Last week marked the anniversary the murder of Sir David Amess, and to celebrate his life I got to launch the cross party community tea party initiative I helped develop with his successor Anna Firth MP, inspired by his own annual tea party for centenarians.
I also visited the team at the new Hollowood Chemists vaccination centre at the Honda garage in Crewe. I know some people had difficulties in getting appointments recently, but I understand that capacity is now up. Do let me know if you continue to have any difficulties.
In Parliament this week I attended an event by SUDEP action to hear about their work on Sudden Death in Epilepsy. I was first introduced to campaigns on this issue from local resident Wendy Shaw from local charity the Jon Shaw Foundation, named after her son, who tragically lost his life.
It good news to see that the work on the Peter Destapleigh Way crossing has been complete. Thank you to Andrew and Peter, the local councillors, who have worked really hard on this issue - which will now provide a safe way for children to cross the road.
We are also well on our way to delivering on our promise of 20,000 new police officers. Since the last election over 15,000 have been recruited and are now fighting crime on our streets.
Next week our charity bingo is back at 7pm Thursday 3rd November at Hough Village Hall raising money for the Brookfield Community Allotment that I recently visited. If you know of a local charity or cause you think could benefit from a donation of around £100 let me know.
Finally, Nantwich Churches Together are looking for volunteers to assist them with their Christmas Day Lunch event for those who are going to on their own this year. Please do get in touch if you would be willing to lend a helping hand.
Have a great weekend.

Remembering Sir David Amess
Last week marked the anniversary the murder of Sir David Amess, and to mark it I am remembering his kindness, warmth and courtesy to me and my staff, and his ability to build friendships with people across different political parties.
I got to launch the cross party community tea party initiative I helped develop with his successor Anna Firth MP, inspired by his own annual tea party for centenarians. This is how I want to honour his legacy.
Pictured are MPs from all different parties who are all working together on this, exactly how David would have wanted.
There is a resource pack for people that want to hold their own community tea party during Parliament week: https://assets.ukparliamentweek.org/uploads/2022/06/UKPW22_OnlineResource_Tea_With_My_Community_AW.pdf
Hollowood Chemist Vaccination Centre
I recently visited the team at the new Hollowood Chemists vaccination centre at the Honda garage in Crewe.
Huge thanks once again to Roger for allowing his business space to be used to help the local community.
The original vaccination centre was inside the Crewe Motorcycle Centre showroom; this new one is behind the showroom in a converted outbuilding and is providing people with their booster shots.
During my visit I met with Rob, who was one of those amazing people that stepped up to volunteer during the worst of the pandemic, volunteering as a vaccine steward. He is now actually working at the programme which I think shows what I've always believed - if you do the right thing it comes back to you in spades eventually!
A great story of someone going from a volunteer to a full time career!
Find out more about if you are eligible for a booster shot, and how to book an appointment here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/how-to-get-a-coronavirus-vaccine/how-to-get-a-booster-dose/
I know there was some difficulties in getting appointments recently, but I understand that capacity is now up. Do let me know if you are struggling to get an appointment.
SUDEP Event in Parliament
Last week, I went along to an event by SUDEP Action: Making every epilepsy death count in Parliament, to hear about their work on sudden death in epilepsy. I was first introduced to campaigns on this issue from local resident Wendy Shaw from local charity the Jon Shaw Foundation, named after her son. Wendy has done an amazing job raising money and awareness and putting programmes in place to help people.
Christmas Card Competition
It's that time of year again! This year's Christmas card competition is now open for entries!
This is always an extremely popular and fun contest for primary school aged children in Crewe and Nantwich. It is also a personal highlight of mine, going through all of the amazing entries, having you all vote for your favourite and then seeing the faces of delight when the winner is told that their design won.
Once again, we will be accepting entries from participating primary schools, but you can also enter by yourself - just send your child's design to me to my office at 249 Edleston Road, Crewe, CW2 7EA, or email it to kieran.mullan.mp@parliament.uk.
Entries will close at 12:00 on 21st November.
Good luck to everyone!
Peter Destapleigh Way Crossing Complete
It is good to see that the work on the new pedestrian crossing on Peter Destapleigh Way has been completed.
Myself and Ward Councillors Andrew Martin & Peter Groves pushed Cheshire East Council to carry out this work for over a year after residents raised concerns about the safety of children crossing the road.
I know that more needs to be done regarding road safety and speeding across the area, but this particular road concerned me the most. I am therefore very relieved to see the work has finally been done.
Thank you to Peter and Andrew and to all of the residents who raised this important issue with us.
15,000 More Police Officers
We have recruited over 15,300 new police officers, who are now out on the streets, fighting crime and keeping us safe. This also means we are well on our way to delivering on our promise to have 20,000 more officers by March 2023.
When we came into government in 2010 £1 in every £4 being spent was being borrowed, which meant difficult decisions had to be made but it is good to see the reinvestment that has taken place.
Locally we need to make sure the new officers in Cheshire are on the beat in our neighbourhoods! I recently met with the Chief Constable Mark Roberts and Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer to discuss staffing in the area which has been steadily increasing.
Christmas Day Lunch
Nantwich Churches Together will be hosting a Christmas Day Lunch at Nantwich Methodist Church, inviting local guests who will be on their own this year.
This event is run by volunteers and may end up being short of helping hands. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in helping out, please do get in touch with me at Kieran.mullan.mp@parliament.uk or call 01270 583432, and I will put you in contact with the team.
