Welcome to the last newsletter of 2022!
I hope you had a good Christmas break and will enjoy some New Year celebrations. I have been able to spend some quality time with my family which always helps recharge the batteries getting away from politics!
I know this time of year is also a difficult one for some people who don't necessarily have friends or family to share it with. If you do, never take it for granted!
Thanks also to those people who have to work over the Christmas and New Year period, I know what that's like!
It has been another busy year helping constituents and local businesses with any issues they have or campaigns they are interested in. I really couldn't do it without my team of staff and I want to give special thanks to my Senior Caseworker Natalie who is moving on to pastures new next year.
Below are some statistics about what I have done in the past year as your MP with their help:
- Helped in over 1,800 casework cases from constituents. This could be anything from tracking a late passport application to local issues with flooding or problems with housing.
- Answered over 4,800 enquiries from constituents about Government policy or a campaigning issue they are concerned with. It can be surprising how many different topics I can be asked about, from animal rights to beer duty!
- Spoke in Parliament 54 times in a wide range of debates. This includes asking Ministers many questions about policy areas - including one or two at PMQs! I have also secured debates in Parliament for issues close to my heart and the hearts of my constituents, such as sentencing the worst criminals to Crewe's bid for the GBR HQ.
- I have also asked 115 written questions to Ministers, once again holding them to account on matters of Government policy.
- I have sent out 48 newsletters, informing residents about what work I have done in parliament and back in the constituency that week.
- I have been on over 60 visits to businesses, schools, charities and local events. I really enjoy this area of my role, meeting so many amazing local people and hearing their stories!
Always feel free to contact me if you run a business or community group or organisation you would like me to come along and see. I am also always happy to promote events and activities being delivered by others.
Next year I hope to keep getting things done locally including helping progress the Crewe Town Deal, achieving funding for the new hospital at Leighton, getting a deep geothermal project in development, seeing further improvements with alleyways in Crewe, getting the new Barony skate park built, securing the future of Shavington Youth Club and more. I am sure there will also be new issues and challenges that you bring to my attention and want help with! I also want to say thank you to the very many people who got in touch to say they were glad to read I was standing for election again, that kind of positive feedback means a lot.
Until the next newsletter, I will end by wishing you a Happy New Year!
