This week, other MPs and I met Post Office Ltd representatives to discuss the potential closure of the last Direct Managed Branches (DMB) in the UK, including the Post Office in Bexhill. This meeting included Nigel Railton, Interim Chair of Post Office Ltd, and Neil Brocklehurst, acting CEO.
I was very disappointed with the meeting, as Post Office representatives didn’t even know what criteria they’d use to make their decision, even though a decision is expected in March.
They were also unaware of the challenges local businesses face with cash deposit services at sub-post offices compared to DMBs.
MPs made it clear this wasn’t acceptable for us or our constituents. Post Office Ltd has promised another update next week, and I will work with other MPs to robustly hold them to account.
It was simply not good enough.
