Welcome to this week’s newsletter.
The Government launched its ‘Homes for Ukraine’ Scheme, in which individuals, charities and businesses can sponsor a Ukrainian to come to the UK and offer a spare room or other free accommodation where they can stay. You can find out more, and register interest in this scheme here:

I also met the Ukrainian Ambassador this week, who wanted me to pass on his thanks for all of the support that the people of Crewe and Nantwich have shown towards Ukraine. He did explain that right now, the best way people can support is through raising funds rather than donating goods themselves. You can give money directly to their armed forces via:

I am calling for nominations for the NHS Parliamentary Awards. These are an annual celebration of the incredible hard work and dedication of health and social care staff and will recognise a select few who have gone above and beyond.
There are a number of different categories I will be able to nominate local staff for. Do let me know if you want me to consider someone you know who deserves national recognition by visiting here:

Finally, the Cheshire Police & Crime Commissioner has launched a survey to find public spaces where women and girls do not feel as safe as they could do.

‘Homes for Ukraine’ Scheme & Meeting with Ukrainian Ambassador
All of us have been appalled by the situation in Ukraine. In particular, by the number of people fleeing their homes to safety. I have been contacted by kind residents who have asked how they could help by providing accommodation for fleeing Ukrainians.
The Government has launched the Home for Ukraine Scheme, which will offer a route for Ukrainians to come to the UK and stay with someone willing to provide them with a home. Individuals, charities, businesses and community groups are all now able to provide a safe route for Ukrainians to come to the UK.
These sponsors should be able to provide the accommodation for as long as possible, but the minimum expectation is at least 6 months. They will receive £350 per month, tax-free, as a thank you for their support.
To be eligible, those fleeing Ukraine must be a Ukrainian National or the immediate family of one and have been residing in Ukraine before 1st January 2022.
We will take in as many people as possible under this scheme; the more people who offer accommodation, the more we will take in.

I met the Ukrainian Ambassador Vadym Prystaiko this week and told him of the support and generosity of Crewe & Nantwich residents towards his people. He passes on this personal message of thanks:
"I want to thank the people of Crewe & Nantwich for their generosity to my people and for their solidarity. You are true friends of Ukraine."
He did explain that right now, the best way people can support is through raising funds rather than donating goods themselves. You can give money directly to their armed forces via:

NHS Awards - Help Me Chose Local Nomination
Do you know someone who provides health or social care who has gone above and beyond? I am searching for nominees for the 2022 NHS Parliamentary Awards.
The NHS is one of our nation’s proudest achievements and for over 70 years dedicated NHS staff have been there for us all. Whether they are doctors, pharmacists and nurses on the frontline, world leading scientists, hard-working cleaners, much needed clerical staff, caring porters, or our amazing volunteers, without the NHS staff there wouldn’t be an NHS. I have had the privilege of working for the NHS and volunteering on the frontline during the pandemic. I know first hand how amazing the staff are.
The NHS Parliamentary Awards was launched in 2018 to celebrate the NHS’ 70 birthday and recognise the outstanding contribution of staff, volunteers and others working in the health and care sector.
As your MP I can submit nominations for the awards and I want to hear from you, local residents, about any outstanding staff you know about If someone showed amazing care, dedication and expertise in helping you, then you can help give them the recognition they deserve. I will be showcase all the nominees so they are recognised even if they aren't put forward as the final nominee.
Nominees could be an individual, a team, or an entire organisation. Nominees don’t have to be working within the NHS – these awards are for anyone working for or with the NHS towards the shared goal of delivering health and high-quality care, now and for future generations.
Some of the awards are a bit technical but the Lifetime Achievement Award is something most exceptional staff could be eligible for.
Visit my website to see the categories and there are questions to answer to help me understand why you think they deserve special recognition. I got to meet last years winners Karina and Darren, and they explained to me how proud they were of the recognition of their achievements. Lets try and do the same for our local NHS and care champions!

Safety of Women and Girls in Public Spaces Survey
The Cheshire Police & Crime Commissioner, John Dwyer, is seeking your views on which local areas cause concern for the safety of women and require targeted intervention in the future.
While this survey is aimed at women and girls, anyone's views are welcome.

Cyberflashing
The Government’s Online Safety Bill is aiming to make the online world a safer place for everyone. In a recent study over 76% of girls aged 12 to 18 have been sent unsolicited nude pictures by men and boys. This behaviour is sexual harassment and must be stamped out.
As part of the Bill, the Government have announced a new offence of Cyberflashing which will close loopholes and ensure the behaviour is treated the same as in-person flashing. This will come with a prison sentence of up to 2 years.
More People employed
It is great news that there are now 662,000 more people on company payrolls than there were before the pandemic. More people going into work is a clear sign that our economy is recovering from the disruption of the past couple of years.
While I understand there are still challenges ahead, this is still very welcomed news.
Charity Bingo - Crewe Clean Team Donation
It was great to hear that a £170 donation, raised by the bingo players of Hough, Basford and Chorlton Village Hall at their February monthly game has gone to the hard-working and dedicated team at the Crewe Clean Team!
David, the chair of Crewe Clean Team, came along to an evening to say thank you to everyone involved. In particular, Cllr Janet Clowes, who helps arrange the evenings and Cllr Steve Edgar who calls the numbers!
Crewe Clean Team are hoping to spend this on something specific that could be identified as being paid for by this donation. I will advertise any further bingo events on here if you want to have a fun evening out and raise money for good causes!
Next month we will be raising money to donate to funds for Ukraine. 7th April, 7pm, Hough Village Hall. Come along!
