Dr Kieran Mullan MP recently attended a meeting organised by Nus Ghani MP, bringing together the Minister, local MPs, councillors and residents to discuss the situation at the asylum site in Crowborough.
While the site is in Nus’s constituency, Dr Mullan recognises the concerns of many of his own constituents, including reports of illegal working, groups of young men drinking on the streets and alcohol being brought onto the site.
In response, Dr Mullan has spoke directly in the House of Commons, urging the Government to take stronger action to address the issues raised in relation to the behaviour reported at the Crowborough asylum accommodation site.
Dr Mullan said:
If the Government are going to force this camp on local people, the very least they can do is ensure that those staying there follow the rules. Residents deserve to feel safe. That’s why I’ve called for breath testing to be introduced on site, and for anyone found drinking there to have their asylum claim rejected.
Dr Mullan confirmed he will continue pressing Ministers to respond decisively to local concerns and ensure proper enforcement at the site.
