GBR HQ Bid

Kieran and others at Crewe Railway Station

UPDATE - IT'S BAD NEWS UNFORTUNATELY...

It's just been announced that Derby has won the competition to host GBR. We can be SO PROUD of our bid and the way the whole community pulled together to produce it. Business, sport, local government, different political parties - everyone played their part.

I am so disappointed that Crewe has not been chosen. I can honestly say there are few places in the country that are more closely linked with the railway than Crewe and bringing the headquarters here would have continued that proud tradition. But I don't begrudge Derby their win and I am glad to see another agency being put outside of London.

But we can build on the opportunities HS2 will bring and things like our £22.9m Town Deal to forge the best possible future for Crewe regardless. I remain positive about Crewe’s future.

I have been spearheading a bid for Crewe to host the headquarters of Great British Railways working cross party with Cheshire East Council, Pete Waterman, North West LEP, South Cheshire Chamber, Crewe Town Board, South Cheshire College, Crewe Alex and the Railwayman supporters club and a whole range of local railway businesses.

Crewe has successfully reached the shortlist, and is one of the final 6 bids which went to a public vote. We are now crossing all our fingers as we are awaiting the outcome.

Along with the HS2 Crewe to Manchester leg being confirmed and a train building contract being awarded to local business, Alstom - it would be fantastic to continue uplifting the rail industry in Crewe. I believe we are a strong contender based on our rail history and our ideal placement for connections all across the country.
