Labour’s choice to lower the National Insurance threshold for employers was short-sighted, ill-thought and a political gimmick to try and pretend they aren’t raising taxes on working people. Unfortunately, poor policy making changes such as this comes with real world consequences such as jeopardising the provision of SEN home-to-school transport. By hurting the businesses which provide this lifeline service, Labour is making the lives of of SEN children harder.
SEN children already face many challenges throughout their schooling, Labour shouldn't be adding to children and their parents worries. Instead they should supported as much as possible, and assistance like specialist school travel can make all the difference.
I’m aware that these changes have also affected Pharmacies and Care homes, amongst other vital businesses who cannot afford these extra burdens at this time. I will be pushing hard for a reversal of these plans, and you have my support in opposing these changes at every stage. I just hope the government will see sense and reverse course.
I personally will be doing everything I can to oppose the bill hiking National insurance in its totality and will continue to do so when amendments are considered.
